Emergencies
Please call the office immediately if you are experiencing unusual discomfort, or if your appliances are loose or broken. We must know in advance of your arrival to the office if you are in need of a repair in order to allocate proper time. If you arrive without notification, you may have to reschedule the repair time even if you are coming for your regular appointment. In the event of an emergency after office hours and you are currently a patient of Dr. Firth’s, please call the office for the emergency phone number.
Loose or Broken Brackets
Call our office immediately for advice if a bracket or wire is loosened. We will schedule you to repair the bracket. If the wire is loosened and is causing discomfort we will see you in the office as soon as possible.You may have a situation that requires cutting a wire or sliding a bracket off a wire at night or over the weekend. If you need to cut a wire in case of emergency or you are out of town, you may use fingernail clippers that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. You may also move the wire away from the irritated area with cotton swab or clean fingers. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small amount of dental wax. If you do not feel comfortable or cannot acquire comfort, please call our emergency contact number. Please call our office the next business day for loose brackets or wires you clipped, so that we may schedule an appointment for you.
Lost Separators
Some patients lose a separator (spacer) during their treatment. Do not worry about loosing a separator, but call our office the next business day to see if it needs to be replaced.
